2nd Annual San Diego Mega Star Talent Competition Announces 2008 Winners and 2009 Competition Dates

San Diego (PRWEB) October 22, 2008 -- The 2nd Annual San Diego Mega Star talent competition concluded with the announcement of Mega Star winners in three categories: child (age 5 to 11), youth (age 12 to 16) and adult (age 17 and over).

2008 Mega Star Winners:

* Child Mega Star Winner: Micaela Marquez

* Youth Mega Star Winner: Janae Nicole Jackson

* Adult Mega Star Winner: Stephanie Grecco

Now in its second year, San Diego Mega Star is a three tiered, elimination-based, individual singing competition. The contestants are evaluated in five areas, by a panel of three to five highly qualified, industry-based judges. Criteria for evaluation include; believability of the performance, does the performer emote well and see to understand what they are singing about? Originality: does the performer add their own touches to the song? Pitch, tone and rhythm: does the performer hit the right notes on the right pitch and is their voice in rhythm? Diction and timing: can you understand the words that the performer is singing and is it in time with the music? Overall performance: was the performance entertaining? Does it grab your attention and hold it until the end?

Mega Star winners are eligible to perform on a parade float in the star-spangled, 62nd Annual Mother Goose Parade (http://www.MotherGooseParade.org) which boasted over 250,000 spectators last year, and is hosting over 50 celebrities this year with the audience expected to reach ½ million! Additionally, the winners receive professional preparation for their live Parade performance; two tickets to the famous star-studded "Dinner with the Stars" on Saturday, November 22, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the W San Diego Hotel in downtown San Diego. VIP Reserved Parking Pass at the Mother Goose Parade. And like the rest of the celebrities, they will walk the red carpet, have press interviews, sign autographs, then relax in the celebrity green room reception area. Upon parade time, each winner will be escorted with their security to their float for performance and of course, each winner will receive one of the celebrity-only gift bags! After the parade, the winners will go on to receive scholarships to the renowned Los Angeles-based Talent Bootcamp with multi-platinum record producers Ron Harris and Doc Little, whose credits include Christina Aguilera, P. Diddy, Beyonce, Mariah Carey.

To mark today's celebration, 2007 Mega Star discovery and Mega Star Winner of the Youth division, 12 year old Francis Florendo stopped by today's finals to wish all the contestants good luck, and after a surprise performance he headed to Qualcomm Stadium to sing the National Anthem for the opening of the San Diego Chargers game.

Mega Star was founded by Deputy Mayor and Council member Jillian Hanson-Cox, in response to the overwhelming talent she discovered when scouting for acts to perform in the (star studded!) Mother Goose Parade.

With the first two years being such a runaway success, Hanson-Cox and her team are expecting year three to be bigger than ever. The 3rd Annual Mega Star, will start open auditions on Friday, April 24, 2009.
